{"id":953,"date":"2026-10-03T05:42:23","date_gmt":"2026-10-03T05:42:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/yoshidalab.r.chuo-u.ac.jp\/?page_id=953"},"modified":"2026-10-03T05:42:28","modified_gmt":"2026-10-03T05:42:28","slug":"lecture","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/yoshidalab.r.chuo-u.ac.jp\/en\/lecture\/","title":{"rendered":"Joining the Laboratory"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>General Information:<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group vk_block-margin-0--margin-top\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Research expenses<\/strong>, including experimental equipment, tools and consumables, and travel for collaborative research and domestic or international conferences, are <strong>fully covered by the university and laboratory<\/strong> for all undergraduate, master\u2019s and doctoral students.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In particular, <strong>graduate students will travel to conferences throughout Japan<\/strong>. <strong>If their work is accepted at an international conference, they also travel abroad to present it<\/strong>! Previous destinations include Kumamoto, Sendai, Tokushima, Utsunomiya and Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For Junior and Senior High School Students Considering University:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group vk_block-margin-0--margin-top\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The laboratory opens to visitors at the annual open campus (July\u2013August) and university festival (November)<\/strong>. These are opportunities to meet university students and faculty, so please check the dates and visit us. We look forward to welcoming you to the new Building 1 on our centrally located Korakuen campus, with excellent transport and nearby facilities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Few places in Japan offer the opportunity to learn all three: electronic machines as soft as living organisms, machines that use living organisms, and machines integrated with living organisms<\/strong>. Join us in researching new bio-integrated electronic engineering technologies that will shape society.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For First- to Third-Year Undergraduates Considering Fourth-Year Graduation Research:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-group vk_block-margin-0--margin-top\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container is-layout-flow wp-block-group-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Laboratory visits are always welcome<\/strong>. Please <a href=\"https:\/\/yoshidalab.r.chuo-u.ac.jp\/en\/contact\/\">contact Yoshida<\/a> to arrange a visit. You are also welcome to drop in without an appointment during the open campus and university festival.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>For the laboratory introduction around late October of the third year, please watch <a href=\"https:\/\/yoshidalab.r.chuo-u.ac.jp\/forb3students\/\">this YouTube video<\/a><\/strong> (password required; displayed on the laboratory door). You only need to attend in person if you have questions; arriving late or being absent is fine.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For Prospective Master\u2019s Students:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Current Chuo University students<\/strong>: please use the recommendation-based entrance examinations described <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chuo-u.ac.jp\/admission\/gschool\/exam\/science\/science01\/\">here<\/a>. Around February\u2013March of the fourth year, academically strong students are granted eligibility for either an internal recommendation examination (interview only, with the written examination waived) or an internal selection examination (written examination and interview). In both cases, meet with Yoshida before submitting the application at the end of March, then take the interview in early April.<strong>These routes cannot be used while simultaneously pursuing employment or admission to another graduate school: recommendations are made on the understanding that successful applicants will enroll. If you want to pursue other options, take the summer general entrance examination, as external applicants do.<\/strong>Students who are not eligible for internal recommendation or selection are also encouraged to take the general entrance examination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For students continuing from Chuo University, the admission fee is reduced by half. Please see the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chuo-u.ac.jp\/academics\/fees\/admission\/gschool_new_student\/\">university\u2019s fee information<\/a> for details.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Applicants from other institutions<\/strong>: information on the general entrance examination and university scholarships is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chuo-u.ac.jp\/admission\/gschool\/exam\/science\/\">here<\/a>. Students from other universities and working professionals are welcome to apply.<strong>Some research can only be carried out here at Yoshida Laboratory, Chuo University<\/strong>. Please first <a href=\"https:\/\/yoshidalab.r.chuo-u.ac.jp\/en\/contact\/\">email Yoshida<\/a> to request a laboratory visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>International applicants<\/strong>: Japanese proficiency at JLPT N1 level is required to attend graduate classes, earn credits, and conduct experiments using Japanese research materials in the laboratory. Please study Japanese thoroughly. Communication with the supervisor and laboratory members in English is possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">For Prospective Doctoral Students:<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The schemes below may provide <strong>a stipend or salary, together with funding for your own research, to support doctoral study<\/strong>. Funding is not guaranteed for everyone and advance consultation is essential. Please <a href=\"https:\/\/yoshidalab.r.chuo-u.ac.jp\/en\/contact\/\">contact Yoshida<\/a> as early as possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Please see the application guidelines <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chuo-u.ac.jp\/admission\/gschool\/exam\/science\/\">here<\/a> for entrance examinations and university scholarships. Working professionals are also welcome to contact us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Current Chuo University students<\/strong>: information on the recommendation-based entrance examination, with the written examination waived, is available <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chuo-u.ac.jp\/admission\/gschool\/exam\/science\/science01\/\">here<\/a>. Support is approximately JPY 200,000 per month, with research funding of approximately JPY 800,000\u20131,500,000 per year, during doctoral study (up to three years). See the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jsps.go.jp\/j-pd\/\">JSPS website<\/a> for details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>SPRING\/D-CPRA<\/strong>: apply around April of the first doctoral year. Please consult us about the stipend and research funding, available during doctoral study (up to three years). Contact the Chuo University office as described on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chuo-u.ac.jp\/aboutus\/communication\/press\/2024\/03\/70531\/\">this page<\/a> for details.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research Assistant (RA), Institute of Science and Engineering, Chuo University<\/strong>: apply around January of the second master\u2019s year. Please consult us about remuneration; support is available during doctoral study (up to three years).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Research Assistant (RA) on Yoshida Laboratory Projects, Including KAKENHI Projects<\/strong>: remuneration may be comparable to JSPS fellowships or SPRING\/D-CPRA, depending on the project\u2019s circumstances. Please consult us first.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Other Grants from Private Foundations<\/strong>: applicants should research and apply for these individually.
